This family friendly event serves a full chili din- ner, and includes prizes and a raffle. Tickets cost $10 for adults and $5 for children 12 and younger, and are avail- able at the door or online. The meal includes fresh corn bread and honey, a hot bowl of chili, with meat and vegetarian options, or a chili dog with fresh chopped onions and a sprinkle of grated cheese. Lemonade and beverages are provided, as well. To enter the chili cook off, bring two quarts of RELIGION BRIEFS Pacific Unitarian Universalist homemade chili in a warmer or crock pot, along with a 3-inch by 5-inch card listing the ingredients (no amounts are needed, to keep “secret” recipes secret), and spice level (mild, medium or hot), by 5 p.m. to the Browns- mead Grange on the day of the event. Only one entry per person is allowed. Contestants are judged anonymously by a panel of judges. A crowd favor- ite chili will also be chosen. There are some prizes for the winners, as well as a first- place trophy, donated by the Trophy Case in Gearhart. Girls have opportunity to learn building skills at summer camp The Daily Astorian WARRENTON — Hampton Lumber is partner- ing with Portland-based non- profit Girls Build to bring a weeklong summer camp for girls to Warrenton in August. Girls Build camps are oppor- tunities for girls 8 to 14 years old to build confidence by learning the basics of build- ing — including carpentry, plumbing, electricity, con- crete and sheet metal — from female instructors. The Warrenton Girls Build camp takes place from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 20 to 24 at the Warrenton Grade School. The cost to attend the camp is $300, with breakfast and lunch included.
