THE KATHRYN OSBORNE AND ARICK LOEW WEDDING
STORY BY KATE GIESE
O
n June 10, 2017, Kathryn Loew
(Osborne), 28, wed Arick Loew,
34, were wed on the beach at
Haystack Gardens with a reception
following at the nearby Surfsand
Resort-- all in beautiful Cannon
Beach. Theirs was an intimate affair,
with just under 50 guests. Officiate Patricia
Durkin performed the outdoor ceremony—a leap
of faith here at the North Coast so early in the year but very
much in keeping with the couple’s love of the outdoors.
Cycling enthusiasts extraordinaire, this pair hails from
Storm Lake, Iowa (population roughly 13,000). Both work
in education--he in Elementary Special Education, and she
teaching second grade. Not surprisingly, their work led to

their fateful meet up."At the time, we were both attending
to Buena Vista University in Storm Lake (and had) many
classes together,” explains Kathryn.
The meeting
For her, it was love at first sight. “I didn’t really believe
in (that) before meeting him,” Kathryn admits."Whenever,
he walked into the room, the whole dynamic changed for
me. He created simultaneously a sense of calm and a
nervous chaos inside me.” Admittedly shy, she waited until
he approached her. “Although, I still pretended not be too
interested in him. Fortunately, he persisted; and by our final
semester of college, we began dating,” recalls the
newlywed.
The proposal
When Arick proposed, following a bike event in the
nearby town of Manning, he took his registration wrist band
off and got down on one knee. As he slipped this makeshift
ring on his ladylove’s finger, he professed his love for her—
telling her how it made him a better person and he could
think of no one better to spend his life with. Then, of course,
he asked her to be his for evermore.
The couple decided to hire a wedding planner—Creative
Celebrations in Portland. It helped too that Arick’s mother,
Becky, was “a huge help”. “It was a smart move given that
we were from out of town—less stressful, and everything
came off like clockwork,” says Kathryn. >>
