Highway 101 in Gearhart,
holds its annual Cartwheels
for Canned Food event from
11 a.m. to noon Saturday .
The occasion — which
includes an hour of tumbling
fun that is focused on cart-
wheel technique — is open to
the public, and no member-
ship is required. All partici-
pants must be at least 4 years
old and all abilities and lev-
els are welcome. The clinic
is free with a nonperishable
food donation to help the local
community.
AARP offers seniors and others
help with income taxes

AARP provides assistance
with income taxes for those
who have simple tax returns,
including seniors and others
with low income. Tax help is
available on Saturdays, begin-
ning Feb. 3, at the Astoria
Senior Center, 1111 Exchange
St.; and on Mondays, beginning
Feb. 5, at the Bob Chisholm
Community Center, 1225 Ave-
nue A in Seaside. Appointments
are required at both locations.

Forty kits containing useful personal care items purchased by the SGA for the local homeless population will be
distributed through UWCC’s partner agency, Clatsop Community Action. Over 100 pounds of food was also collect-

The Sunset Empire Trans-
portation District has announced
that its annual Ridership Appre-
ciation Day is Tuesday. It is
scheduled to coincide with, and
offer free bus service to Project
Homeless Connect being held
from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the
Seaside Convention Center.
Also on Tuesday, as part of
Ridership Appreciation Day, an
open house is held from 8 a.m.
to 6 p.m. at the Astoria Tran-
sit Center, 900 Marine Drive,
with free refreshments, gifts,
prizes and travel and transit
information.

Interspiritual
A Celebration of Spirit, spon-
sored by Common Ground Interspir-

This morning gathering is not defined
by any particular belief system, and

Columbia Quakers, also known as the
Religious Society of Friends, meets

on Sunday at 10 a.m., followed by

The First Lutheran Church Youth
Club is forming for youths who are
10 to 13 years old, or close to those

twice a month from 4 to 6 p.m. on
Sundays for fellowship, food and
activities based on a biblical or sea-

Meeting Sunday, beginning with a
single 9 a.m. combined service.
Sunday is Hunger Awareness
Sunday, with an ingathering at the
service for the Hunger Ministries at
the church. Both monetary and non-
perishable food items are requested.
Loaves of bread, canned corn and
crackers are especially needed.
Following the service, a meal is
being shared, then reports from the
various ministries and committees
are presented. The first annual meet-
ing of Grace was held in 1846, even
before the original Grace Church
building was completed in 1867.
The monthly Community Dinner
is served in the Parish Hall at 4 p.m.
Sunday. Those willing to help should
come at 3 p.m. to set up and at 5 p.m.
to clean up.

Disabled American Veterans van for

Astoria Warming Center — 1076
Franklin Ave. Winter overnight emer-
gency shelter for homeless persons
needs volunteers for three-hour shifts
from evening through the night to help
with welcoming guests, serving dinner,
cleaning the kitchen, monitoring the
sleeping area overnight, and closing
the shelter in the morning. Volunteers
also needed for weekly litter patrols in

Regional Food Bank — Volunteers

orders for agencies, light janitorial and
housekeeping, or lawn and grounds
