The first free day is Monday, which also coin- cides with First Day Hikes, a nationwide initiative that aims to get people outdoors on New Year’s Day; the sec- ond is Jan. 15, in honor of the holiday celebrating Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday. The Discover Pass is still required to access lands managed by the Washing- ton Department of Fish and Wildlife and Department of Natural Resources on these days. Clatsop CASA adds new advocates for children in December The Daily Astorian The Clatsop Court Appointed Special Advo- cate (CASA) Program has announced that on Dec. 14 four new volunteers joined CASA to help serve abused and neglected children in Clatsop County. Judge Dawn McIntosh con- ducted the ceremony to swear in Joyce Balint, Buzz Johnson, Carrie Nunnally and Stacey Womack, who have undergone more than 30 hours of train- ing in order to be able to effec- tively advocate for maltreated children.
