Mark Paiz Jr, 61, was indicted in October for crimes allegedly committed against a woman from June through September. For those alleged crimes, he has been charged with eight counts of first-de- gree rape, eight counts of first-degree sodomy and eight counts of first-degree unlawful sexual penetration. Earlier this week, he was indicted for first-degree sex abuse charge. While appear- ing via video from the Clat- sop County Jail, he again was unable to fully participate. “I’ve talked to him and he does not reply,” an interpreter sitting next to him said. “I’ve shouted at him.” Bail has been set at $250,000 in that case. Paiz has previously been convicted in Clatsop County of first-degree criminal tres- pass, fourth degree assault, menacing and three times for driving under the influence of intoxicants. If convicted on all charges, he faces a mini- mum of more than 200 years in prison.
