Boys & Girls Club of the
Long Beach Peninsula
PROGRAM OVERVIEW
The Boys & Girls Club of the Long Beach Peninsula
opened in November 2008 to provide a safe, reliable,
positive, and fun place for kids to go after school.
Club programs promote and enhance the
development of youth by instilling a sense of
competence, usefulness, belonging and influence.
This year we have expanded to include teens.
When elementary and middle school aged kids
attend club, they are able to better develop social
skills by interacting with others in a fun atmosphere.
Through high learning activities, youth do not always
know they are learning. We offer daily tutoring to
help kids with academics as well as offer special clubs
to let youth try and learn new skills. Some of the
programs we have run this year include Stamp
Collecting, Pen Pals (with kids from other countries),
Basketball Basics, Arts & Crafts, Art in Nature,
Sewing, STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering,
Art, and Math), and Chess to name a few. By having a variety of opportunities, kids are able to explore new
interests.
This year we have partnered with the high school and are offering an afterschool hangout for students who
attend Ilwaco High School. Homework help is offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays with the help of Gear Up. This
fall we held a ping pong tournament where approximately 20-25 students and staff joined in friendly
competition.
Each day all members are offered a meal when they get here at 3:15 and a snack provided at 5. The
members are able to ride the activity bus which leaves the club at 6:00 with drop offs in Chinook, Long Beach
and Ocean Park. This option allows parents the convenience to pick up their children closer to home.
FUNDRAISING EVENTS:
In September, we partnered with Ocean Beach
Education Foundation for their annual auction, and we are
planning to continue to do so in the coming years.
CORPORATE GIVING OPPORTUNITIES:
Through December, we are running our 2017 Annual
Business Campaign. Depending on the level that each
business chooses, they can receive a BGC window cling, a
thank you in our newsletter, and their logo displayed
prominently at our fundraisers and inside of our Club.
DONATIONS:
Boys & Girls Club of the Long Beach Peninsula is 100%
self-funded by donations, grants, and fundraising events.
The cost to the family for a child to become a member is
$25 for 12 months, and the cost to us is roughly $600 per
member per year. Since January we have had over 350 Club
members, including over 75 teens, and serve an average of
65 members each day.
One-third of our budget comes from personal
donations. You can give online at
www.longbeachbgc.com/donate or mail a check to PO Box
1172, Long Beach WA, 98631. If you would like to receive
a Holiday Letter and updates throughout the year, send
your name and mailing address to Allie at alliebgc@gmail.com
VOLUNTEER:
We currently need volunteers to come in and read with
kids who are behind grade level. We are also always
looking for volunteers to run programs for six-or-so weeks,
once or twice a week. These programs can be anything that
the volunteers is interested and/or has some expertise in.
For example, last year the Master Gardners ran a spring
program, and currently the Peninsula Stamp Club is coming
in on a weekly basis!
