(541)336-6398 Sou’wester workshops: bookbinding, travel journals SEAVIEW, WASH. — As part of its fall/winter workshop series, the Sou’wester Lodge (3728 J Place, Seaview, Washington) will host two workshops the weekend of Dec. 2 and 3. “Coptic Stitch Bookbind- ing” with Jillian Barthold — an illustrator, printmaker and bookbinder — will take place noon to 4 p.m. Satur- day, Dec. 2. You’ll learn the basics of bookbinding and the step- by-step process of making a handmade hardcover coptic stitch book. Coptic stitch binding is one of the earliest forms of bookbinding and is sewn with thread leaving an exposed spine. You’ll leave with your very own blank book to use as a journal, recipe book or sketchbook. The cost is $30.
