In honor of Veterans Day
on Saturday, which is being
observed on Friday, all fed-
eral, state, county and city
offi ces and services, including
Astoria, Warrenton, Gearhart,
Seaside and Cannon Beach
city halls, are closed Friday.
All post offi ces are closed,
and there is no mail delivery
Friday.
Astoria, Jewell, Knappa,
Warrenton/Hammond, Sea-
side (including Cannon Beach
and Gearhart schools) and
Ocean Beach School District
schools and Clatsop Commu-
nity College are closed Friday.
The Astoria Library, Sea-
side Library and all Timber-
land libraries in Washing-
Forest Service waives fees for Veterans Day
The Daily Astorian

itage Museum, Oregon Film
Museum and Flavel House
are open from 11 a.m. to 4
p.m., and the Carriage House
is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The Uppertown Firefi ght-
ers’ Museum is closed. Capt.

a.m. to 4 p.m. Fort Clatsop
is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

collection

the holiday. Recology West-
ern Oregon’s transfer station
and Peninsula Sanitation’s
transfer station are open.
The Sunset Pool in Sea-
side is closed for renovations.
The Astoria Aquatic Center is
closed Friday.
The U.S. Forest Service is
waiving fees at day-use recre-
ation sites across Oregon and
Washington state in honor of
Veterans Day.
“We honor our veterans
each Nov. 11 and every other
day of the year,” said Jim
Pena, regional forester, in a
statement. “We hope that this
Astoria Art Loft is invit-
ing active duty and retired
military personnel to display
art work and military memo-
rabilia this month in recogni-
tion of Veterans Day.

• At 8:01 p.m. Sunday,
Kevin Michael Edwards, 28,
of Gearhart, was arrested by
the Warrenton Police Depart-
ment in the parking lot near
Subway and Ride Aid. He
was arrested on a Multnomah
County warrant and charged
with driving under the infl u-
ence of intoxicants, hit-and-
run and driving with a sus-
pended license. Edwards
allegedly hit another car in the
Fred Meyer parking lot earlier
in the night during a road rage
incident. After police located
him pacing in the parking lot,
he failed fi eld sobriety tests
and recorded a blood alcohol
content of 0.06 percent at the
Clatsop County Jail.
• At 8:15 p.m. Monday,
Amber Nicole Longsdorf, 18,
of Warrenton, was arrested by
the Astoria Police Department
on 15th Street and Jerome
Avenue and charged with
driving under the infl uence of
intoxicants and reckless driv-
ing and cited for minor in
possession of alcohol. Police
encountered Longsdorf at
the scene of a single-vehi-
cle accident involving a 2013
four-door Ford Fiesta she was
allegedly driving. Her blood
alcohol content was 0.18
percent.

Joanne had the kindest heart, and those who
knew her will miss her constant humming.
Even as she was preparing to go h ome she was
cheerful, and would hum joyfully. Her laugh-
ter and love will be dearly missed by all who
knew her.
Survivors include her husband, Larry Bre-
see; her son, Greg Wambolt; daughter Dana
Wambolt; stepdaughter Jeanette Mainord (Jon);
sister Jodee Walczyk (Joe); brother Jack Jones;
four grandsons; two granddaughters-in-law; and
many nieces and nephews.
Joanne was preceded in death by her parents;
brother Jim Jones; sister Joyce Jones; stepson
Tom Bresee; and her ex-husband, Phil Wambolt.
As per her wishes, there are no services.

Joanne D. (Jones) Bresee died peacefully at
home in Ocean Park, Washington, on Oct. 30,
2017. She was 78.
She was born on May 8, 1939, to George and
Iyone Jones. Joanne graduated from Weather-
wax High School in 1957. She worked in the
accounting offi ce for Kress, and in the drug
store in Westport, Washington.
Joanne married Larry F. Bresee in 1980, liv-
ing in Aberdeen until Larry retired, and they
moved to Ocean Park, Washington.
Joanne was the most loving wife, mother and
friend. She had two children from her previ-
ous marriage when she married Larry, and then
gained two more, who she loved as her own.
She was a fantastic cook and very gifted artisti-
cally, loving to paint, crochet, knit and sew. She
also loved playing bingo and going to the casino
with friends or family.
