Mission Statement:
PROGRAM OVERVIEW
We learned early on that many of our children and students were dealing with poverty to the extent that it was
becoming a barrier to learning. Issues beyond academics and beyond the school environment were affecting our
children and their ability to learn. Our children were going to school hungry. Many didn’t even have basic clothing
such as shoes or warm jackets. Their mental and emotional well-being was tenuous and so fragile. Many live with
toxic stress, neglect and abuse as a way of life. So we began to slowly identify issues that we could impact and
hopefully neutralize. Issues such as lack of parental involvement or engagement; adverse childhood experiences,
parental alcohol and substance abuse, unemployment and housing issues were a few that were identified. Abuse
and toxic stress accounts for a great deal of our children’s mental and behavioral needs. These had a direct impact on
student attendance, participation and achievement. The need to surround our children/students with more than
school books became very apparent the more we learned about this issue. We immediately created the weekend
food backpack program and Healthy Hygiene backpack that are full of items such as toothpaste, toothbrush, soap,
shampoo etc. We also provide Thanksgiving Baskets for our families in need and last year, we began our Christmas
Project where we provided gifts to our most vulnerable children and families. Our commitment is that 100% of all
dollars received will be used for projects.
To partner with schools, teachers
and staff in identifying children in
need and providing kid-friendly
nonperishable food that is
distributed at school. We exist to be a
resource and a safety-net for our local
school in providing financial, physical
and nutritional support for those
children whose basic needs are not
being adequately met.
Vision/Goals:
Our goal is to be as flexible as the
need is great. We want to be a collab-
orative partner in our community
helping to build up our children in
positive healthy ways. Neutralizing
the effects of poverty is always in the
forefront of what we do.
