Foundation
PROGRAM OVERVIEW
The Knappa Schools Foundation (KSF) was founded in 1997. Knappa School District became independent from Columbia 5J
in 1997 and community leaders were intent on seeing the district be successful. Out of that concern, which reflected the
sentiment of the entire community, KSF was born.
The KSF mission statement is “To provide resources to enhance education and encourage individual success for the students
of Knappa Schools.” Now in its nineteenth year, KSF has been very successful in its efforts to improve the quality of education in
our community. Funds raised through the annual dinner and auction have been used in a three-point approach to fulfilling our
mission statement. First, KSF awards scholarships each year to deserving students entering that critical first year of post-secondary
education. To date those scholarships total over $325,000. Secondly, KSF awards mini-grants to teachers and educators to
encourage innovation in the classroom and to enhance access to technology. Total mini-grant awards have exceeded $375,000
since they began. Lastly, since its inception, KSF continually invest portions of the fundraising proceeds. These invested assets
will be for enhancing and supporting Knappa Schools and its students into perpetuity.
FUNDRAISING
Our Annual Dinner/Auction which is our main fund raising
event takes place on the second Saturday of February every year.
It is held at our local high school gym which is beautifully
transformed into a gala event with a prime rib and salmon dinner.
We open the doors at 4:30 Saturday afternoon and everyone
comes early for appetizers and previews the silent, oral and raffle
items. Then we enjoy a delicious dinner and the fun begins with
the live auction. It is a huge community event.
We sell 320 dinner tickets and over the past many years have
had a sold-out event. We have been honored for over 14 years by
the support of Senator Betsy Johnson, her famous “Betsy Plea”
which amazes us every year by the generous support of
community members who contribute to her “hard to resist plea”.
