PROGRAM OVERVIEW
The Friends of Old Fort Stevens, or FOOFS,
operate concessions within Fort Stevens State
Park as a means of providing funding for
interpretive and restoration projects. Examples
of concessions: Visitors Center gift shop, and the
selling of firewood to campers.
FOOFS operates seasonal walking and truck
tours within the park’s Historic Area. Funds are
expended on restoring selected features of the
gun batteries and museum/visitors center
displays. Over the course of the year living
history events are funded as well as several major
events. FOOFS has co-sponsored the ever
popular Labor Day weekend Civil War
Reenactment for over twenty years.
The Friends of Old Fort Stevens are passionate
about maintaining and preserving Oregon’s only
coast artillery fort. It’s mission was accomplished
as no enemy ever attempted to enter the
Columbia River to take over its countless assets
and riches.
Preservation can be expensive. The Friends
welcome corporate and private donations
devoted to the preservation and interpretation
of Fort Stevens.
