Astoria Column, Inc.
PROGRAM OVERVIEW
The Friends of Astoria Column, in addition to
providing daily maintenance for the column and
grounds, have strived to promote the Column
and increase visibility and awareness for this
National Landmark that welcomes over 400,000
visitors a year.
Built in 1926 on top of Coxcomb hill, the
Astoria Column is a national landmark whose
historic murals celebrate the earliest moments
of Northwest history. The historic and intricate
murals that grace the exterior of the Column
require periodic conservation due to punishing
weather conditions.
In addition to raising the necessary funds for
intensive restorations of the Column, the Friends
have enhanced the site with ADA-accessible
plaza restoration, seismic upgrades, and
replacement of the interior spiral stairs.
