are holding a Conservative
Barbecue from 3 to 5 p.m.
Saturday at Lighthouse

Dellmoor Loop in Warren-
ton. There is no charge for
admission.
Hamburgers, hot dogs,
baked beans, cake and soda
are being served. The cost
for food is by donation.
The event also features a

gun raffle, music, speak-
ers and an auction. Speak-
ers include Bruce Cuff, who
is running for governor of
Oregon.
There are several auc-
tion items to bid on, includ-
ing a certificate of authen-
ticity for a flag that will be
flown over the U.S. Capitol
in Washington, D.C. (win-
ner picks the date, and also
receives a plaque with the
date and the winner’s name)
and a three night’s stay at a
local vacation rental.

wedding vows with Matt
Crichton of Astoria at 4
p.m. Saturday, Aug. 19,
2017, at Sunset Beach
in Warrenton. He is the
son of Helen Pitkanen
of Astoria and the late
David Crichton.
The bride was given
in marriage by her
mother. Pastor Morris
Guiendon performed the
ceremony.
Matron of honor was
Judy Pounder of War-
renton, friend of the
bride. Bridemaids were
Michelle Fox and Char-
ity Dorcy, both of Shel-
ton, also friends of the
bride.
Best man was Guill-
ermo Romero.
The bride graduated
from Evergreen State
College in 2010. She is
an in-home health care
nurse.
The
bridegroom
received a bachelor’s
degree in engineering
from the University of
Portland in 2000, and a
master’s degree in teach-
ing (math) from West-
ern Oregon University in
2017. He is a teacher.
A reception was held
at Suomi Hall in Astoria.
The couple resides in
Shelton.

Clatsop Community Col-
lege will host the fourth-an-
nual Conference on Extraor-
dinary Living Sept. 16 in
Patriot Hall.
The conference, meant
for seniors, covers topics
such as health, finance and
travel. College President
Christopher Breitmeyer will
start the event with a key-
note speech, followed by
breakout sessions on topics
such as disaster preparation,
making friends of all ages,
the Ship Report program by
KMUN Coast Community
Radio, dancing for fitness
and North Coast trails. The
event will end with a dis-
cussion about medical mari-
juana for people and pets.
The conference is from
9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Patriot
Hall. Lunch is provided by
the college’s Bandit Cafe.
The event is free, but a $10
donation is requested. Free
flu shots will available. The
Wildlife Center of the North
Coast will have an exhibit,
along with another on ther-
apy animals.

Astor Street Opry preps for
‘Shanghaied in Astoria’

The Astor Street Opry
Company announces its origi-
nal production of “Shanghaied
in Astoria — Topsey Turvey!”
runs for two nights only, Sept.
15 and 16. The house opens
at 6:30 p.m. and the show,
directed by Jason Hippert with
choreography by Carleta Lew-
is-Allen, starts at 7 p.m.
The boys play the girl
roles, and the girls play the boy
roles, in a cross-dressing pro-
duction meant to lampoon the
ASOC’s show, “Shanghaied in
Astoria!” This two-night fund-
raiser costs $10 per ticket, and
all proceeds go to help with
further building projects.
