$4,000 to Assistance League

$4,000 from U.S. Bank. The program provides funds for
fees and gear for local children’s sport, cultural, art and

Scandinavians were well represented in the Astoria Regatta Parade, and won several awards, including the Mayor’s
Award for the Portland Finlandia Foundation’s Viking ship celebrating Finland’s Centennial. In addition, the Astoria
Scandinavian Midsummer Festival Court float won the Grand Marshal’s Award, and the Astoria Scandinavian Heri-
tage group, with flags, signs and marchers promoting the Scandinavian Heritage Park, won the Court Award.

SEASIDE — The North Coast Land Conservancy is host-
ing the 2017 Summer Picnic at the Barn at 4 p.m. Thursday at
the Circle Creek Conservation Center, located at the end of Rip-
pet Road in Seaside. There is no admission fee; everyone is wel-
come. Bring your own food and, if possible, something for the
dessert table.
Guided walks on the trails at Circle Creek begin at 4 p.m.
Bring chairs or a blanket to relax on the lawn outside the big barn
and listen to live music beginning at 5 p.m., while a silent auction
with lodging, wine, fine art and other offerings is held inside the
barn. The picnic wraps up around 7 p.m.

Healthy summer activity
photo contest takes off
Healthy summer activity photos are sought for a contest
sponsored by Columbia Pacific Coordinated Care Organization
(CCO). Submitted photos have a chance to win a $25 gift card.
The CCO encourages healthy activities, such as hiking, swim-
ming, yoga and good nutrition as measures to prevent illness.
Sharing photos can inspire others to participate in activities that
lead to healthy outcomes.
To enter the contest, post a healthy summer photo at the
ColumbiaPacificCCO Facebook page; tag it @ColumbiaPacific-
CCO, and add the hashtag #HealthySummer. Every week,
through Sept. 2, a winner is picked from the five photos with the
most likes that week.

Backpack donation can earn
entry for Seahawks’ drawing
LONG BEACH, Wash. — As the school year kicks off, the
Backpack Program of Pacific County is in need of donations.
Those who give $5 between now and Wednesday at any Wauna
Credit Union branch are entered to win two tickets to the Aug. 25
Seattle Seahawks preseason game against the Kansas City Chiefs
at Century Link Field in Seattle. Each $5 donated is worth one
entry into the ticket drawing.
Members and nonmembers can contribute in person at any
of the credit union’s branches in Astoria, Warrenton, Clatskanie,
Vernonia, St. Helens and Scappoose, as well as the Mortgage
Origination Office in Long Beach. Members can also call the
Wauna Credit Union Communication Center at 800-773-3236
and have money transferred directly to the Backpack Program.

ter, Erin Tinney, of Shelton,
to Matthew Crichton, also of
Shelton. He is the son of Helen
Pitkanen of Astoria and the
late David Crichton.
The bride-to-be graduated
from Choice High School in
Shelton in 1997, and received
a bachelor’s degree in psychol-
ogy from Evergreen State Col-
lege in 2010. She is an in-home
care nurse.
The prospective groom
received a bachelor’s degree in
engineering from the Univer-
sity of Portland in 2000, and
a master’s degree in teaching
(mathematics) from Western
Oregon University in 2017. He
is a teacher.
