Stewardship Sewing meets at 9:30 a.m.

school supplies for Lutheran World Relief
school kits and making backpacks. Sup-
plies needed include boxes of 24 crayons,
blunt scissors, ball point pens, 30 centime-
ter rulers, pencil sharpeners, and 70-sheet
notebooks of wide or college-ruled paper.

First Lutheran Church holds a Beach
Service at 7 a.m. Sunday in the Peter Ire-
dale upper parking lot. All residents and
visitors are welcome to attend, and are
encouraged to bring a blanket or chair
and dress warmly. Steve Dornfeld, pastor,
leads the worship.
The regularly scheduled services at
First Lutheran, 725 33rd St., are at 8:30
and 11 a.m.
On Monday, Sea Scouts meet at 5:30
p.m. and Hope House Parenting Class
meets at 6 p.m.
Southern Gospel group reunites
The Original Hamar Family Sing-
ers are in concert at 10:30 a.m. Sunday at
Astoria First Assembly of God Church,
1775 Seventh St. The group formed in
1971, and the event is a reunion perfor-
mance for the original members.
The singers consist of James D. Hamar
of Astoria and sisters Charleen Ratkie of
Milton-Freewater, and Susan Luttrell of
St. Helens. The trio will perform in the
Southern Gospel style, and will be backed
by Astoria First Assembly of God’s wor-
ship band.
A potluck buffet-style meal follows the
service. All are welcome.
St. Mary, Star of the Sea
St. Mary, Star of the Sea Catholic
Church, 1465 Grand Ave., holds an Our
Lady of Fatima Prayer Service at 7 p.m.
Sunday.
After all Masses on Sunday and on
Aug. 27, children may be registered for
the following: Faith Formation, for kin-
dergarten through sixth grade, which
begins Sept. 6; and First Reconciliation/
First Communion Preparation. Bring a
copy of the child’s baptism certificate to
registration. Registration is also available
at the vacation Bible school, or the parish
office.
The Feast of the Assumption, a Holy
Day of Obligation, is Tuesday. Masses are
at noon at the St. Francis De Sales Mis-

Peace Lutheran
Peace Lutheran Church, 565 12th St., is
holding a Lemonade Sale during the Asto-
ria Regatta Parade on Saturday under the
banner “Positive Change Begins by Tak-
ing Action.” All proceeds will be given to
the Astoria Food Pantry.
On Sunday, the Peace Lutheran and
First Lutheran churches are participating
in a 7 a.m. Beach Worship Service at the
Peter Iredale shipwreck upper parking lot.
