An Astoria man accused
of passing fake $20 bills was
arrested Wednesday.
Neil Alexander McDow-
ell, 29, allegedly passed the
bills on two different occa-
sions at the Burger King on
Marine Drive. After the sec-
ond time, he drove away and
an employee contacted Asto-
ria Police, who located him on
12th Street and Commercial
Street.
He was arrested in the
Wells Fargo parking lot just
before 10 a.m., where police
allegedly detected that he was
under the infl uence of drugs.
McDowell was charged with
two counts of fi rst-degree forg-
ery, two counts of third-degree
theft and driving under the
infl uence of intoxicants.
Police also are investigat-
ing similar bills passed at the
Mini Mart on Marine Drive
earlier this week.
