Artists Ryan Everson of
Warrenton and Bonny Gor-
such of Cannon Beach have
been selected to partici-
pate in the second annual
Coastal Oregon Artist Resi-
dency (COAR), which sup-
ports the creation of art from
recycled, repurposed and
discarded material. The res-
idency was developed by
Recology Western Oregon
and local arts nonprofit Asto-
ria Visual Arts.
Everson graduated from
Warrenton High School
in 1999 and served in the
U.S. Army for four years.
For most of his life, he has
been a mechanic. His train-
ing began with going along
with his father to refriger-
ation jobs and working at
a small family-run lawn-
mower shop. He went on
to fixing M1A2 battle tanks
in a combat zone, to full-
time welding, to owning and
operating an automotive and
custom-exhaust fabrication
shop, to working the North
Dakota oilfields.
Everson currently makes
sculptures from recycled
copper, with bases made
from a variety of materials
such as melted glass, drift-
wood and rock. To see some

folk art, which has been fea-
tured in many publications.
She sells her work online, at
outdoor shows and through
Astoria Vintage Hardware.
