Megan, the daughter of Michelle
and Jonathan DeVos, is a sophomore
at Western Oregon University studying
business management and dance. She
is excited to crown the next Miss Scandi-
navia and see what the future holds for
the court.

Scandinavian by mar-
riage, Sharon first con-
nected with Scandinavian
traditions in 1973, when
she and her husband
moved from Montana to
Astoria. Their daughter was
Junior Miss Norway and,
later, Senior Miss Norway.
Emily Falleur and her
husband have two chil-
dren, Kaylee and Mag-
gie (this year’s Junior
Miss Sweden). Emily
represented Denmark
as Junior Miss Denmark
in 1983 and Senior Miss
Denmark in 1992.

Wyatt Jackson
Sophie Hansen
Wyatt, the only male on the 2017
Scandinavian Court, is a third-grader at
Warrenton Grade School. His ancestry
includes Finnish, Swedish, Danish and
Norwegian. He has attended every festi-
val since birth and has danced with the
Viking Nordic Dancers for the past two
years.
Sophie Hansen, the daughter of Sta-
cey Hansen and the late Michael Funk, is
a junior at Knappa High School. Her Dan-
ish heritage comes from her mother’s
side of the family, specifi cally her great-
great grandfather. She has been a mem-
ber of the volleyball, wrestling, track and
forestry teams.

Kara Dowaliby
Norah Alsbury
Megan is a junior at Astoria High
School and a member of the Finnish
Brotherhood. She works on estate sales,
in construction, lifeguards at the Astoria
Aquatic Center and commercial fi shing
for Pacifi c Bounty. Her great-great-grand-
parents came from Finland in 1909.
Maya, a sophomore at Seaside High
School, is on the school swim and robot-
ics teams. Her parents are David and Jana
McGill. Her grandmother on her father’s
side arrived from Norway in the United
States in 1957. Maya is a former Junior
Miss Norway and has visited relatives in
Norway fi ve times.
Kara, a junior at Warrenton High
School, is the daughter of Todd and Dixie
Dowaliby. She has been a Viking Nordic
Dancer for ten years, and performed with
the group in Disneyland twice. She was
Junior Miss Sweden in 2007. Kara’s family
has been involved with the Astoria Mid-
summer Festival for three generations.
Norah is a second-grader at Warren-
ton Grade School. Her Danish relatives
arrived in the U.S. four generations ago.
Her mother was Junior Miss Denmark in
1987 and Senior Miss Denmark in 1997.
Her sister was Junior Miss Denmark in
2015. Norah likes trying all the diff erent
Scandinavian foods at the festival.

Augusta Hayrynen
Jenna Karnofski
Maggie Falleur
Georgia, a second-grader at Hilda
Lahti Elementary in Knappa, is the
daughter of Josh and Laura Sutton. Geor-
gia loves to play sports, such as basket-
ball and softball. Her Finnish relatives
immigrated to North Dakota six genera-
tions ago.
Augusta is a second-grader at Astor
Elementary. She has Norwegian and
Finnish heritage; both come from her
father’s side. Her family have volun-
teered for the festival for set-up and tear-
down for many years. Augusta enjoys
the dancing at the festival because it’s
fun.
Jenna, a second-grader, is proud to
represent her Icelandic heritage in the
festival. Her parents are Carole and Marc
Simmons, and Jarrod and Vinessa Karn-
ofski. She is both Finnish and Icelandic.
Jenna’s great-great-grandmother, immi-
grated to North Dakota in 1894.
Maggie, a fi rst-grader at Astor Ele-
mentary, is the daughter of Emily and
Tom Falleur. Her great-great-grandfa-
thers arrived in the U.S. from Sweden
and Denmark as teenagers; her great-
great-grandmother came from Norway.
She volunteers at the festival, including
assisting with the Troll Run.
