50 YEARS OF THE ASTORIA SCANDINAVIAN MIDSUMMER FESTIVAL
ful festival our volunteers
Tradition!
have put together for you to
enjoy this year. It is also an
This is what the Asto-
ria Scandinavian Midsum-
mer Festival is all about:
The celebration of traditions
and customs that our fami-
lies brought to the U.S. from
their homeland.
My family immigrated
and kept their traditions and
customs alive as did many
other families from the five
Scandinavian countries. I,
along with many others, cel-
ebrate our ability to keep
these traditions alive for
ours and future generations
to come.
Our beautiful festival
is celebrating the amazing
milestone of 50 years —
50 years of Danish, Finn-
ish, Icelandic, Norwegian
and Swedish entertainment,
food, music, court mem-
bers, anthems, volunteers
and a multitude of mem-
ories to share with future
generations.
I urge anyone who has
been involved with the Asto-
ria Scandinavian Midsum-
mer Festival in years past to
attend and see the wonder-
invitation to those who have
never experienced our fes-
tival to come and see what
you have been missing all
the years. You need not be
Scandinavian to enjoy all
that we have to offer! The
volunteers have worked hard
to put together a celebration
of honoring the past with an
eye on the future.
As the current festival
chairperson, I welcome you
to come and share the mem-
ories, renew old friendships,
meet new friends and make
new memories at an amaz-
ing festival centered on tra-
ditions old and new.
Come and take pride in
your heritage, or experience
the traditions of a culture
new to you. Kiitos!
