Port moves against former
Riverwalk Inn operator
By EDWARD
STRATTON
The Daily Astorian
The Port of Astoria is
seeking partial summary
judgment on two claims
against Brad Smithart, the
heavily indebted former oper-
ator of the Astoria Riverwalk
Inn, for more than $400,000
in rent and revenue-sharing.
The Port sued Smithart
and his company, Hospital-
ity Masters, in November.
The agency’s first claim is
that Smithart failed to make
$323,000 in required pay-
ments during his operation
of the hotel from March 2012
to September 2015. Smithart,
who has not listed a defense
attorney, responded to the
lawsuit in December, admit-
ting to not paying the rent the
Port seeks.
Smithart, who operates
the Arc Arcade in downtown
Astoria, did not immediately
return a request for comment
Wednesday.
Hospitality Ventures dis-
solved in March 2015. The
Port’s second claim is that
Smithart’s operation of the
hotel after his company’s
dissolution until September
2015, when he was replaced,
was inappropriate.

The USS Bunker Hill, a Ticonderoga-class guided missile cruiser, docked at the Port
of Astoria Wednesday as part of the annual Fleet Week and Rose Festival celebration
in Portland. The Bunker Hill crew enjoyed a program at the Elks Lodge. Astoria Mayor
Arline LaMear, Port of Astoria Executive Director Jim Knight and volunteers thanked the
sailors for their service to the country. In gratitude, a sketch of Astoria was given to Bun-
ker Hill Capt. Joe Cahill. The captain thanked the people of Astoria for their hospitality
with a Bunker Hill plaque. “We appreciate everything,” Cahill said.
