Facing a 3A team on the road for the second time in two days, the Loggers won again, a 14-0, five-inning win at Clatskanie in nonleague baseball action. Knappa pitcher Dale Takalo tossed a four-hit shutout, striking out seven with no walks. The Loggers had 11 hits and drew seven walks off three Clats- kanie pitchers, while the Tigers committed five errors defensively. Logger leadoff hitter Jason Miller led the way, finishing 4-for-4 with two triples, a double, three runs scored and three RBIs, while Andrew Goozee, Eli Takalo and Dale Takalo each had a dou- ble. Kaleb Miller scored twice and drove in two runs. Colin Murphey/The Daily Astorian Julia Norris sends a pitch to the plate for Astoria on Thursday against Seaside. Lady Fishermen sweep the Clash The Daily Astorian Cobras hold off Warriors softball The Daily Astorian HALSEY — With an open date in the schedule, the Warren- ton softball team took to the road for a nonleague game at Central Linn Thursday. And the Cobras held off a big Warrior rally in the top of the seventh for a 12-10 win over Warrenton. Central Linn led 9-5 after four innings, then increased the lead to 12-6 in the bottom of the sixth. Cobra freshman Bre Buck- ridge threw 130 pitches, and gave up nine hits with just two strikeouts and six walks, while Warrenton pitcher Niqui Blodgett countered with nine strikeouts and five walks, with 10 hits allowed. The Warriors struggled defen- sively, with seven errors. Still, Warrenton rallied with four runs in the top of the sev- enth before Buckridge was able to record the final out. Landree Miethe, Natalie Dun- can and Claire Bussert all had two hits apiece for the Warriors, while Kenz Ramsey finished with three RBIs. Tyla Little added a double. Twenty-five runs in nine at-bats … not a bad night’s work for the Astoria Lady Fishermen. After scoring a 10-0 win in Game 1, the Astoria softball team actually had to rally from behind in Game 2, as the Fishermen overcame an early 2-1 deficit to win 15-3, to complete a Clatsop Clash doubleheader sweep over Seaside, late Thursday night at CMH Field. Astoria freshman Julia Norris picked up both victories in the circle, as she pitched all five innings of Game 1, allowing just one hit with six strikeouts and three walks. Seaside’s Jetta Ideue took the loss, despite striking out seven. Norris also had two hits, including a two- run double in the third inning. Teammate Abi Danen also had two hits, which included a two-run single in the third and another RBI hit in the fourth. The Gulls committed four errors in the first game and multiple errors and miscues in Game 2. Still, Seaside scored first on a bunt sin- gle by Ideue, with GeriAnn Klaffke sprinting home on an Astoria error in the top of the first. The Fishermen responded with a run in the bottom of the first, but only one, as Seaside outfielder Alyssa Goin made a diving catch off a line drive by Danen in center field, then threw to second for a double play. Shortly after, Klaffke singled to left field in the second, scoring Mica Paranal to give the Gulls a 2-1 lead. But Astoria answered with 13 runs in the bottom of the third, highlighted by a two- run single up the middle by Hailey O’Brien; an RBI double to deep center by Jenna Bar- endse; and Rylee DeMander’s two-run NBA PLAYOFFS Wizards, Warriors rack up wins PREP SCHEDULE BASEBALL Knappa 14, Clatskanie 0 Knappa 235 04—14 10 2 Clatskanie 000 00—0 4 5 D.Takalo and Goozee; Helmen, Luquette (4), Bochner (5) and War- ren. The Wizards used a 22-0 first-quar- ter run to take a 34-12 lead as Thomas and the Celtics kept missing shots and turning the ball over. The game was already a blowout in the second when Washington’s Kelly Oubre Jr. was ejected for charging and knocking over Kelly Olynyk after the Boston big man was called for an illegal screen. There were eight technical fouls and three ejections total. Otto Porter and Bojan Bogdanovic scored 19 points apiece for Washing- ton, which improved to 4-0 at home in the playoffs. Washington’s 119 first-quarter points is an NBA record for the first three games of a series. SEATTLE — Ariel Miranda set- tled in after taking a liner off his leg during a shaky second inning, and the Mariners offense took over after that. Danny Valencia homered and had four hits, Miranda pitched seven strong innings and Seattle beat the Los Angeles Angels 11-3 on Thursday night. Miranda (3-2) allowed two runs — both in the second inning — seven hits and a walk while strik- ing out five. He was struck by a shot from Yunel Escobar, then made a throwing error, but escaped the sec- ond inning and cruised from there. “Great job by Ariel Miranda, can’t say enough,” said Mariners manager Scott Servais. “Obviously, he took the shot off the calf there early in the game, and he hung in there. To get through seven innings when the pitch count was up after the first two was really nice to see.” Valencia hit a solo shot in the seventh and had three RBIs as Seat- tle matched its season high with 16 hits. Ben Gamel had three hits and two walks, scored three times and drove in two runs for Seattle, which built a 6-2 lead in four innings against Alex Meyer (0-1). Meyer, called up earlier in the day from Triple-A Salt Lake, was tagged for six runs, eight hits, three walks and a hit batter. AP Photo/Ted S. The Mariners added two more in the fourth on a single by Jean Segura, an RBI double by Gamel and a single by Nelson Cruz.
