Melissa Cooper began her career working in a bronze foundry at the age of 17.
For 10 years she assisted her father with his sculpture before picking up clay to
create her own art at the age of 27.
Thirty years later, this award-winning sculptor’s work ranges in size from mere
inches to monumental scale.
Melissa refers to her style as “realistic impressionism” – focusing detail and emotion
on
into the faces of her subjects while the bodies tend toward smooth lines and
simplicity highlighted by her signature patinas. After initially sculpting a wide
array of wildlife, Melissa now focuses almost exclusively on birds. Her passion for
sculpting birds has segued, quite naturally, into a passion
for observing, feeding and learning about the birds in her
hometown of Littleton, CO. These include woodpeckers and

kestrels, two birds she has not sculpted yet but hopes to.
