Port of Astoria staff
have not been transparent or truthful
to the public regarding its many mistakes
that have wasted over a million dollars of taxpayer money
and harmed our community.
I have raised these concerns many times
at Port meetings and to The Daily Astorian,
but they have not honestly reported
these problems to the public,
so I am paying for this advertisement
to try to inform the public.
Commissioners Campbell, Raichl and Mushen
refuse to do the job required of a Port commissioner,
as they ignore or approve all of the Port staff’s mistakes
and refuse to hold anyone accountable for them.
Port staff received notice of $69,319
in stormwater violations from Oregon DEQ
by certified mail on March 29, 2017,
but hid this from the Commission and public at
the Port meeting when the Stormwater System at Pier 3
was discussed on April 4, 2017.
Commissioners Campbell, Raichl and Mushen
refuse to schedule a meeting to find out why
Port staff hid these violations from everyone
and who should be held accountable.
The Port needs to control its costs and
stop making these mistakes before adding new spending
at the airport that is not expected to give a good return
on the public’s investment. I fully support Life Flight,
and they already have a hangar at the airport
for over a year. Life Flight has $1,000,000
in financing and taxpayer money
to build a better hangar at the airport.
The Port can easily make a spot for them
without any bond at all. Instead, the $1.9 million bond
is actually just using Life Flight’s name
to try and trick Clatsop County voters
into giving their money to benefit a
handful of special interests and pilots who store and fly
their own airplanes at the airport,
including Commissioners Campbell and Raichl.
BEFORE YOU VOTE,
at least take the time to listen to the
candidate forums and make a good decision
by choosing the candidates who will make the
Port of Astoria transparent and accountable.
Commissioner Bill Hunsinger
Vice President, Position 3
