APRIL 13, 2017 // 3 Dog walk at Lewis and Clark National Historical Park FORT CLATSOP — A dog walk will be hosted at Lewis and Clark National Historical Park to help raise awareness about climate change and promote outdoor activities. With leashed dogs, at- tendees will walk two miles on the Netul Trail to Fort Clatsop and back. The event will take place 3 to 5 p.m. April 20 at the park’s Netul Landing. The landing is approx- imately one mile past the visitor center entrance on Fort Clatsop Road. There will be prizes, drinks and snacks provided. Dog lovers and community members are welcome to attend. Astoria High School stu- dent Maryann Mandujano is coast organizing this event as part of her senior project. She belongs to the Lewis and Clark National Historical Park Science & Sustainabili- ty youth leadership team. After participating in North Cascades Institute’s backcountry Youth Leader- ship Adventures program in Summer 2016 to learn about climate change’s impact on INSIDE THIS ISSUE weekend National Parks and com- munities, Mandujano wants to give back to the Astoria community by encouraging locals to reduce their carbon footprint by spending more time outdoors. Take a guided tour of Ilwaco harbor animals and wildlife ILWACO, WASH. — A guided birding and wildlife tour of Ilwaco harbor will take place April 15. Expe- rience the diverse plants, birds and mammals of the harbor and with Madeline Kalbach and Susan Stauffer of the Friends of the Willapa National Wild- life Refuge. Participants will meet at 9 a.m. at the Salt Hotel & Pub for coffee and an overview. The walking tour starts at 9:30 a.m. At 11:30 a.m., they will enjoy a light lunch at the Salt Pub, then spend the after- noon in self-guided tours. Finally, at 7 p.m. everyone will return to the Salt to share pic- tures and stories with other guests. The cost is $45, which includes lunch and coffee in addition to the tour.
