APRIL 6, 2017 // 3 Twelve Days of Earth Day, art contest kicks off in Cannon Beach CANNON BEACH — Numer- ous Twelve Days of Earth Day events will take place Tuesday, April 11 through Saturday, April 22 in Can- non Beach. The eighth-annual celebration offers nu- merous environmentally focused opportunities for community members and visitors. Participants can cel- ebrate the return of the tufted puffins to Haystack Rock, learning about these birds from Haystack Rock Awareness Program staff and volunteers. Other events include a community Potluck on coast Friday, April 21, Friends of Haystack Rock talk at 7 p.m. Wednesday, tree plantings, guided tours, a “Pets and People” Walk- ing Parade and a Street Fair where numerous different environmental groups will share ideas. Participants who love beachcombing, creativ- ity and stewardship are encouraged to participate. INSIDE THIS ISSUE weekend The theme this year is “It’s a Small World.” Art should be less than 2-by- 2-by-2 feet in size. Participants are invited to collect beach debris (plastic, shoes, hats, tow- els; any trash that washes up on our beaches) and use it to make art. All materials must be debris that are collected off the beach. Bring creations to the Cannon Beach Chamber Community Hall between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. on Friday, April 21. The winner will be announced at the potluck and will receive the Steve McLeod award.
