Thank veterans on Saturday
WARRENTON — A “Welcome Home Veterans Military Appre-
ciation Day” is being held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Lum’s
Auto Center, 1605 S.E. Ensign Lane. The event, which is sponsored
by the Daniel E. Crockett Marine Corps League Detachment 1228,
provides an opportunity for the community to thank local veterans,
and includes a barbecue, raffle prizes, presentations to veterans, live
music and awards.

Boutique sponsors fundraiser
Ayla DeCoraggio, the new owner of The Fox and the Fawn, an
upscale consignment boutique, is holding a fundraiser for a differ-
ent nonprofit charity each month. Beginning April 1, and continuing
through the month of April, The Fox and the Fawn is hosting a FUN-
drive to raise funds for River Song Foundation, a local, nonprofit that
rescues stray, abandoned and feral cats, and provides them with full
veterinary services.
Donations of clothing, household goods and jewelry can be
dropped off Wednesday through Sunday, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the
shop, 1008 Commercial St.
“We have the capacity to be the change by taking what’s not wanted
and putting it where it’s needed,” DeCoraggio said. “I believe it’s not
what we have, but what we do with what we have that matters.”

Meeting set to discuss a possible
second Sea Scout group Thursday
Sea Scout Ship 363 Flying Cloud is inviting the community to
talk at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Astoria Yacht Club’s Club Room,
about the feasibility of establishing a second Sea Scout group. The
second group would focus on developing seamanship skills for kids
and young adults with developmental disabilities.
The Sea Scout program is a part of the Boy Scouts of America, and
is meant for young men and women age 14 and over. General activ-
ities focus on learning maritime skills and how to safely operate and
maintain boats. Spending time with new friends is also an important
activity.

Weather simulator part of new
exhibit at Maritime Museum
The Columbia River Maritime Museum opens its newest exhibit,
“Science of Storms, The Extraordinary Weather of the Pacific North-
west,” on Saturday. The museum is open daily from 9:30 a.m. to 5
p.m.
The exhibit looks at the historical interest of mariners in the
weather, and the ways that science and technology have addressed the
challenges of predicting it. There is a TV weather forecaster’s studio
space, where visitors can try their hand at giving a weather forecast,
see themselves as rescuers would using infrared vision technology,
view the earth from space and see for themselves the generation of
storms over the vast Pacific. Visitors will also learn to understand the
role geography plays in the extreme weather conditions, and experi-
ence hurricane force winds in a hurricane wind simulator.
