During the 20th annual Great Backyard Bird Count Friday to Mon-
day , Lewis and Clark National Historical Park has planned four days
of bird-related activities. There is an ongoing pink heron scaven-
ger hunt Friday to Monday ; a birding walk with Mike Patterson on
Saturday ; and a discussion on birds of the Wildlife Center of the
North Coast on Sunday with Josh Saranpaa. To participate in the

A semi truck struck and
killed six elk on U.S. Highway
101 early this morning near
Camp Rilea.
John Phillips, 53, of Long
Beach, Washington, was trav-
eling northbound at about 6 a.m.
in a white Freightliner when he
was unable to avoid a herd of elk
on the highway. Phillips will not
face any charges, Oregon State
Police said.
Man accused of killing
pet pig with bow, arrow

ST. HELENS — Author-
ities say a man has been
arrested in connection with
the killing of a pet pig with
a bow and arrow near St.
Helens.
The Columbia County
Sheriff’s Offi ce says deputies
arrested 54-year-old George
Bainbridge Wednesday on
charges of animal abuse, and
criminal mischief.
Authorities say the pig
died after it was shot with two
arrows from a compound bow
on Monday.
Deputies made the arrest
after serving a search warrant
at Bainbridge’s home, which
is next door to the home where
the pig lived.
He is lodged in the Colum-
bia County Jail on over
$36,000 bail.

Brandon Allen Getten Staigmiller was born unconditionally loving spirit, his love of life and
love of Smarties. And of course, his
on June 8, 1987, in Great Falls,
encompassing hugs.

ranch in Eden, Montana. He attended
miller family, his Mama Bear Lynne,
school in Centerville, and graduated
his father Kurt, his little sister Kelsey
from Cascade High School in 2005.

his four fur babies, Charlie, Claire,
a summer as a stone mason, Brandon
Cleo and Booda; his mentor, John
and his two musketeers, Alisa and
Harper; his grandparents, Pete and
Josh, packed up a U-Haul and moved
Mel Balzarini; as well as numerous
to the Oregon Coast. Brandon fell in
aunts, uncles and cousins. Brandon is
love with the climate and the culture.
He managed a chain of smoke shops Brandon Getten now playing and giggling in heaven

with his nephew, Zaden Lucas, who
and was actively pursuing his passion
preceded him in death in 2013. He
