SEASIDE — James Roehr, a
student at Seaside Heights Elementary
School, is the first-place winner of the 2016
Elks Eye Injury Prevention Poster Contest.
The poster contest is designed as a mes-
sage to children about the causes of eye inju-
ries. Boys age 7 to 10 are the most likely eye
injury victims.

to $5 million in grants
offered this year is the focus
of “Conversations with
Funders,” a nine-stop state-
wide tour, including a stop
in the McTavish Room at the
Liberty Theater from 3:45 to
6:15 p.m. Tuesday.
The tour is led by Ore-
gon Cultural Trust Manager
Aili Schreiner in partnership
with the Oregon Arts Com-
mission, Oregon Heritage,
Oregon Humanities and the
Oregon State Historic Pres-
ervation Office. The group
also shares information on
statewide
programming
resources.
Organizations encour-
aged to attend include
libraries, arts organizations,
museums, cultural centers,
historical societies, arts alli-
ances, literary groups and
heritage organizations. All
cultural nonprofit organiza-
tions are welcome.
Among the grant oppor-
tunities discussed will be the
Cultural Trust’s 2018 Cul-
tural Development Grants;
grant guidelines are now
posted at http://culturaltrust.

Oregon Farm Bureau
offers scholarships

The Oregon Farm Bureau
(OFB) Foundation for Edu-
cation has announced that
applications are available for
two scholarship programs
for the upcoming 2017-18
academic year.
OFB Memorial Scholar-
ships are available to grad-
uating high school seniors
planning to attend an insti-
tution of higher learn-
ing; current full-time col-
lege students with a high
school diploma; and Oregon
home school graduates with
some college coursework
completed.
Applicants must be major-
ing in a field of study related
to agriculture or forestry, or
be the child or grandchild
of a current voting member
of Farm Bureau in Oregon.
Ten to 12 scholarships will
be awarded.The OFB Asso-
ciate Member Scholarship of
$1,000, funded by COUN-
TRY Financial, is available
to one new or continuing
full-time student at an insti-
tution of higher learning.
Students can be pursuing any
major, but must come from a
family that has an Associate
(nonfarm) membership with
OFB and have insurance
from COUNTRY Finan-

Raffle tickets will be sold and
cash prizes from $25 to $500
are being awarded. Winners

First Baptist
Beginning Sunday, the
First Baptist Church of Asto-
