Married in Manzanita
THE MEGHAN HUNGATE AND DEREK SABATKE WEDDING

hen Derek Sabatke
drafted Meghan Hungate
for his ultimate Frisbee team,
little did he know they would
be on the same team for life.
The couple, who live in
Boulder, Colo., had played on
different ultimate Frisbee teams in a social
league for a year or so before meeting. When Derek drafted
a team in 2015, he asked Meghan to join it. A year later, they

were engaged.
Sabatke and Hungate chose Manzanita for their wedding
last July 21. Meghan’s family had good friends in Manzanita,
and her parents celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary
there. She took Derek on a family visit to the North Coast in
2015, and once the couple became engaged, they decided it
was a perfect place for their ceremony.
“I said let’s get married on the beach,” Meghan said.
“I had very few reservations about getting married there,”
added Derek. “It was the right setting, and it was low-key.
Plus, Meghan’s family already had connections there.”
Meghan, who had knee surgery a few months before her
marriage, spent much of the time planning the wedding while
recovering on her couch. But, she said, it was easy to arrange
the reception with Bread and Ocean, the flowers with
Wisteria Chic and the photos with Julie Adams, of Cannon
Beach.
Although it’s a two-day drive from Colorado, all of the
32 guests they invited attended the wedding. Some of them
made the event into family vacations. >>
