Magnificent location
THE KATRINA GODWIN AND JIM COULTER WEDDING
STORY BY NANCY McCARTHY
T
hey started out as friends, but
after Jim Coulter and Katrina Godwin
began dating a year later, friendship
blossomed into love.
Eventually, it became time to plan a
wedding, and the couple took a road trip to
determine where they wanted to have their beach
ceremony.
The Eugene couple had never been to Cannon Beach, but
once they turned off the highway and headed into town, they
knew that’s where they wanted to be married.

“It’s a location we both fell in love with,” Jim said.
“There’s a real homey vibe with the little shops. The beach
is magnificent.”
“We knew right away that it was the right location,”
Katrina said.
Katrina had a specific goal: “I wanted to get married on
the sand.”
It was a request that the Surfsand Resort could
accommodate. Other resorts elsewhere offered the couple
only inside venues overlooking the beach. But the Surfsand
provides several wedding locations, including an outside
area at the ocean’s edge.
Katrina found flowers at Basketcase. Three kinds of
cupcakes — chocolate cake with chocolate filling, white with
lemon filling and white with raspberry filling — were prepared
by Cakes by Jae. “They were amazing,” Katrina said.
About 100 guests descended on Cannon Beach from
Eugene, Boston, Denver and San Diego for the Aug. 14, 2016,
wedding. Many had never visited the town before.
“They were completely amazed at the scenery,” Jim said.
Although it had rained the day before, the sun rose on the
wedding day, and it remained dry. >>
