3A THE DAILY ASTORIAN • WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 18, 2017 Port divide bubbles up over Knight award Fulton accuses chairman of malfeasance By EDWARD STRATTON The Daily Astorian The divide on the Port of Astoria Commission was on full display Tuesday during a tiff over an award nomination last month for Jim Knight, the Port’s executive director. During a discussion of the minutes from last month’s meeting, Commissioner Ste- phen Fulton accused Commis- sion Chairman Robert Mushen of malfeasance for unilater- ally nominating Knight for the Special Districts Association of Oregon’s Outstanding Manager of the Year Award. Knight didn’t win, but received a certificate of rec- ognition, along with other nominees. Fulton, who with Commis- sioner Bill Hunsinger has been a critic of both Mushen and Knight, said he contacted the association and received a let- ter stating the nomination for the award comes from a board criticizing a letter Mushen sent of directors. “Since the appli- to the Columbia River Estu- ary Study Taskforce on cation and nomination behalf of the Port Com- was submitted by one mission, which had commissioner from his voted to ask the group home email, it appears to comply with a pub- that this was a fraudu- lic records request from lent application,” Ful- Warrenton. We can show you how they work. Castor oil in spray or pellet form is a very good deterrent. Smoke bombs are also available with varying degrees of effectiveness as are various breeds of canines. Since moles are primarily carnivores, they do the most damage to the roots of plants by undermining them as they dig. On the brighter side, moles do a lot of good in the garden by eating crane fly larvae and aerating the soil. Motor vehicle accidents cause a variety of injuries because of an abrupt change, like the cracking of a whip. In less than a second, many tons of force are transferred to the body, including ligaments, muscles, disks and joints. Those tissues stretch and tear and do not heal without proper care. Injuries can include neck, back, jaw, shoulders, ribs and knees. Chiropractic care has been shown to be effective and gentle to restore normal function after injuries and accidents.
