Marge Huddleston, vice chairwoman of the Camp Kiwanilong Board of Directors, was
presented with a $3,000 Program Grant by Kevin LaCoste of U.S. Bank to support the
camp’s creativity programs for 2017, which include arts, crafts, music, drama and cultural
activities. Registration for the six-week Summer Youth Program at the camp begins in
mid-March. Forms will be sent home from school with all Clatsop County students en-
tering grades three through nine.
Columbia Bank has
announced that $209,335.96
and 8,140 items were raised
for 54 local homeless shel-
ters across the Northwest
during the second annual
Warm Hearts Winter Drive.
One hundred percent of the
clothing and funds collected
were donated directly back
to organizations in Oregon,
Washington and Idaho. In
Clatsop County, $4,120.53
in donations were raised to
benefit local organizations,
including the Astoria Warm-
ing Center and the Helping
Hands Re-Entry Outreach
Centers.
Columbia Bank estab-
lished the Warm Hearts Win-
ter Drive in 2015 to help aid
nonprofit organizations in
providing warmth to individ-
uals, families and children
in need. “We are so proud
of our employees, custom-
ers and community, who ral-
lied together again this year
to raise awareness of this
growing issue, and make a
real difference,” Melanie
Dressel, president and CEO
of Columbia Bank said.

WARRENTON — War-
renton High School is par-
ticipating in the Harold and
Arlene Schnitzer CARE
Foundation’s
“Communi-
Care” program, designed to
introduce young people to
the importance of community
service and the role of non-
profit organizations in their
local communities. WHS has
raised and donated $33,000
over the past three years, and
is awarding additional grants
in 2017.
This year, the student body
identified health and human
services as well as education
as important issues to support,
and grants totaling $11,000
are being made to nonprofit
organizations that address
these same areas of concern.
Warrenton students are
now assessing applications
for those grants. Organiza-
tions that wish to apply for
funding should include the
following information: How
the organization helps with
health and human services or
education in Clatsop County;
the organization’s mission,
programs and objectives and
population served; the nature
and the amount of the request;
and a brief description of
what would be done with
the money. A copy of an IRS
determination letter verifying
the tax-exempt status of the
organization is also needed.
The deadline to apply is
March 3. Email proposals to
westj@warrentonk12.org, or
mail them to CommuniCare,
in care of Warrenton High
School, 1700 S.E. Main Ave.,
Warrenton, OR 97146. A
decision on the grant awards
will be made no later than
April 28, and notification will
be made shortly thereafter.

dent Mike Davies, left, and Past President Bruce Jones,

helps participants gain coping skills and self-esteem
