ASTORIA REGATTA 2016 DIGNITARIES 2016 astoria regatta CO-PRESIDENT CLIFF FICK Cliff Fick was born and raised right here in Astoria. He attended local public schools and Clatsop Community College where he graduated with an AA degree in social science. He then went to Western Oregon University, and completed a BS degree in secondary education. He married his wife, Roxanne, in 1970 and returned to Astoria to live until he moved to Alaska to began a career in the hospitality industry as manager for Mannings Inc. While in Alaska, he worked in hospital dietary management, several years in the oilfields of Prudhoe Bay, and ultimately became the district manager for a joint venture formed with a Native corporation and his company. Mannings was acquired by Marriott Corporation in 1985, which led Fick to transfer with Marriott to Seattle, as the district manager of corporate services for the state of Washington. His career continued with Marriott for several years, including another tenure in Alaska, until his retirement. After retirement, Fick and his wife, decided to return to Astoria and moved back into his childhood home in the Lewis and Clark area. Thus began his new career as a volunteer. Currently, Fick’s involvement in the community Clatsop College Foundation board member, Maritime Museum volunteer and docent, Astoria Golf and Country Club board member, and of course, Astoria Regatta where he serves as co-president. Throughout the busy life across different states, the title he loves most is Grandpa. 2016 astoria regatta CO-PRESIDENT DAN ARNOTH Dan Arnoth has served the Clatsop County area since 1980, and is known to be a positive influence in our community. He is semi-retired from the financial/retirement planning industry, and spends much of his time helping out with the many charitible organizations and events in our area. He moved to Astoria in 1986, and in that time, he has created a great legacy of service. Dan has been active in the Astoria Regatta since 1989 when he was a court escort. He has chaired or worked on events and has been president or co- president four times. Dan has been a major part of the Regatta Parade float since 1995, except for three of those years, and has been the chairman of the float committee since 2007. Dan has been active with the Astoria-Warrenton Chamber of Commerce since 1990. He has served for several years on its board and was president of the chamber in the ’90s. Dan served or has served on the Lower Columbia Tourism Council, Clatsop County CASA, Astoria High School Band, Key Club and numerous other associations. The 2015 recipient of one of our town’s most prestigious honors, The George Award, from the Astoria-Warrenton Chamber of Commerce, Dan was able to volunteer and participate in all of this, only with the backing of his lovely wife, Billie.
