Great Vow Zen
Monastery
CLATSKANIE — The
Great Vow Zen Monastery,
located at 79640 Quincy-May-
ger Road in Clatskanie, is
holding its 14th annual 24-
Hour Interfaith Chant for
Peace from noon Aug. 6 to
noon Aug. 7.
Each hour of the Chant for
Peace is led by a different spir-
itual tradition. There are times
of seated chanting and times of
circumambulating the monas-
tery. Anyone and everyone are
invited to attend for any length
of time. There are beds avail-
able for napping and a buffet
table available for refreshment
throughout the event.
There is no cost for this
event, although monetary or
food donations are always
greatly appreciated.

Bethany Free Lutheran
Bethany Free Lutheran
Church is holding a car wash,
starting at 9 a.m. Saturday, in
the church parking lot, 451 34th
St. Free will donations will be
received. The church youth are
raising money to attend next
summer’s Free Lutheran Youth
national convention in Estes
Park, Colorado.
The Sunday service is not
being held at the church. Instead
an outdoor worship service is
being held at 11 a.m. at the south
shelter at Cullaby Lake, followed
by a picnic. All are welcome.

Grace Episcopal
Grace Episcopal Church,
1545 Franklin Ave., is holding a
single service at 9 a.m. Sunday,
featuring recognition of Carol
Abraham’s music ministry of
31 years playing the organ and
piano at Grace. Special music
will be offered by several of her
music students. Following the
service, there will be a potluck
brunch. All are welcome.
Grace Church is holding its
annual rummage sale from noon
to 5 p.m. Thursday, 10 a.m. to 3
p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to noon
Saturday. Rummage may be
dropped off any morning. Prices
are by donation, except for the
Treasure Table, with items free
after 1 p.m. Saturday. The pro-
ceeds from this sale support a
variety of projects, including a
preschool scholarship, food pan-
try supplies and outreach in the
community.

First Lutheran
The 11th Sunday in Pente-
cost will be celebrated at First

Regional Food Bank — Volun-
teers needed to help hand out
fruits and vegetables at the weekly
produce pantries for two hours on

house attendants are needed for
food packing or processing, pick-
ing orders for agencies, light jan-
itorial and housekeeping, or lawn
and grounds maintenance. Three
to four-hour shifts are available

Outreach Literacy — Needs
volunteer literacy tutors to work
with adults, native and non-native
