Senior Bronson Holthu-
sen said the event gave him
a chance to see his former
teachers.
“I wish they would have
done that when we were
kids,” he said, adding the
younger students seemed
to look up to the graduates.
“I think they thought it was
pretty cool.
“I think it’s got great
value, because it shows kids
what they’re aiming for, and
it brings us together as a
community.”
Astoria Principal Lynn
Jackson said he saw a post
online from a school in Texas
that had done a grad walk and
thought it would work per-
fectly in a close-knit commu-
nity like Astoria. He said he
took the idea to administra-
tors from other schools and
got an overwhelmingly sup-
portive response.
“The energy was different
in every single building,” he
said. “Astor Elementary was
amazing. I think the Class of
2027 … had the sign ‘con-
gratulations Class of 2016
from the Class of 2027,’ so
just exciting energy.
“These students, many
of them are K-12 kids,”
he said. “They’ve gone
through the whole system.
It gives them an opportunity
to say ‘thank you’ to the
teachers that they worked
with, but also to help all of
our little ones, our younger
students, to see the end from
the beginning.”
