Christopher Breitmeyer
has accepted the Clat-
sop Community College
Board’s offer to be the next
president and starts in July.
“We
are
extremely
pleased to announce that
Chris has accepted the
offer,” Rosemary Bak-
er-Monaghan, chairwoman
of the board, said in a state-
ment . “We look forward
to him starting and feel he
will bring new energy to the
college.”
Breitmeyer, the vice
president for academic and
student affairs at St. Charles
Community College in Mis-
souri, replaces Gerald Ham-
ilton, who was hired as an
interim president after Law-
rence Galizio left in July to
be president of the Com-
munity College League of
California.
The search for a new
president started with more
than 30 applicants and was
eventually whittled to Bre-
itmeyer and Glenn Smith,
the executive vice provost
for student services and
enrollment at Concordia
The city of Astoria and
Columbia Memorial Hospi-
tal are hosting a public open
house Thursday to discuss
proposed improvements to
Franklin Avenue between 23rd
and 27th streets. Community
members and interested par-
ties are invited to drop in any-
time between 6 and 7 p.m. The
event will be held at the CMH
Columbia Center at 2001
Marine Drive.
The hospital is construct-
ing a new parking lot adjacent
to 23rd Street and Franklin.
The lot will improve park-
ing and pedestrian and vehic-
ular mobility between 23rd
and 27th streets. The project
includes closing the currently
vacated access on 23rd Street
at Marine Drive, providing
new sidewalks and crosswalks,
improved drainage, a new turn
lane on Marine Drive, and a
safer access to Franklin.
The project team expects to
start construction this summer,
and it is anticipated to be com-
pleted by early fall.
The hospital received fund-
ing for the improvements
along Marine Drive from a
state Department of Trans-
portation a ccess m anagement
g rant. The hospital is provid-
ing the funding for the work
planned on Franklin and the
improved parking facility.
