Sanders, Kasich visit Oregon as presidential hopes slip

PORTLAND — Democrat
Bernie Sanders’ struggling cam-
paign returned to Oregon on
Thursday to make sure he can
count on the state’s progressive
voters in the May 17 primary.
The Vermont senator spoke
at a rally in Springield, about
100 miles south of Portland. He
drew young supporters from the
nearby University of Oregon in
Eugene.
Sanders said he’s hoping for
a high voter turnout.
“On May 17 let us have a
huge voter turnout. Let this
great state go forward with the
political revolution,” Sanders
said.
Republican candidate John
Kasich held a town hall in Port-
land Thursday and said he’s not
ready to give up despite busi-
nessman Donald Trump’s huge
primary wins this week and the
Ohio governor’s vastly dimin-
ished chances.
Oregon has 74 Democratic
delegates and 28 Republican
delegates up for grabs — small
