Tigers sweep Astoria
Astoria is still ranked No. 5
in the latest Class 4A softball
rankings, but that didn’t stop
Clatskanie from posting a pair
of upset wins Thursday over the
Lady Fishermen.

WARRENTON — The
Seaside boys golf team
scored its second team
victory in four days at
the Astoria Golf
& Country Club,
with a Cow-
apa League dual
match win over
Astoria Thursday.
The
Gulls
shot a sea-
son-low team score and
improved to 2-0 in Cowapa
League play with a 329-398
victory in golf’s version of
the Clatsop Clash.
Seaside’s Aaron Rich-
ardson was medalist with an
impressive 3-under par 69.
Teammate Berkley Posalski
was second (82), followed
by Jackson Kunde (86),
Josef Barbic (92) and fresh-
man Samson Sibony (108).
Kirk Fausett led Astoria
with a 92. Other Fishermen
scores were Ron Schumaker
(98), Brian Wilder (101),
Kyle Meisner (108) and
Taylor Palmberg (113).
Richardson started out as

sixth birdie on the 11th hole.
After a double bogey
on the 15th, Richardson
chipped in from off the cart
path for an Eagle on the
16th.
When his slippery 6-foot
downhill putt caught the
right side of the hole on the
18th, he ended the day with
a career-best 69.
“Aaron had a great round
today,” said Seaside coach
Jim Poetsch. “I think Car-
ter Lee’s 69 (for Tillamook)
on Monday really moti-
vated him today. Aaron has
worked hard to be one of the
best players in the state, and
seeing that 69 on Monday
reminded him that there are
other really good players out
there.
“Today he just went out

strokes better than his pre-
vious career-best score
for the Gulls, while
Kunde carded a season
best score for the two-time
defending state champions.
“We had a pretty good
team score today too,” Poetsch
said. “(A) 329 will beat most
teams on most days. But we
can’t rest our laurels on shoot-
ing a low score in April. We
have some things we can still
improve upon and our guys
are working hard to get better
every day.”
Seaside’s junior var-
sity team edged Astoria,
491-493.
SCAPPOOSE — The
Astoria
baseball
team
bounced back the way Asto-
ria baseball usually does
Thursday night.
Following a 4-2 loss at
home Tuesday to Scappoose,
the Fishermen went to Scap-
poose Thursday and posted an
11-5 win over the defending
state champion Indians, as the
stad and Olaf Englund had
three hits apiece, with Frems-
tad driving in two.
No. 9 hitter Cade O’Brien
was 2-for-4, with three RBIs
and two runs scored. Trey

stranded 12 base runners.
In other Cowapa League
action Thursday, Valley Catho-
