Lyngstad, Fremstad shut down Klamath Union
By GARY HENLEY
The Daily Astorian
The Astoria Fishermen
bounced back from a Friday
loss to Estacada with an 8-0 win
over Klamath Union Saturday
afternoon, in nonleague base-
ball action at Aiken Field.
Astoria had the bats work-
ing under sunny skies at Tapiola
Park, while Fishermen pitch-
ers Tyler Lyngstad and Fridtjof
Fremstad totally shut down the
Pelicans, who lost their fourth
straight.
Lyngstad started and pitched
six solid innings, allowing just
one hit, with seven strikeouts
and one walk.
After giving up a ¿rst-inning
single to Klamath’s Noah Huff-
man, Lyngstad retired the next
eight in a row. He gave up his
lone walk in the fourth, but then
retired nine of the ¿nal 0 bat-
ters he faced.
Astoria’s Kyle Strange had
a leadoff single in the ¿rst and
scored on a grounder by Frems-
tad for the game’s ¿rst run.
The Fishermen tacked on
two runs in the third, high-
lighted by another leadoff single
from Strange, who scored on a
double by Ole Englund.
Strange walked to lead off
the fourth inning and scored on
a double by Fremstad; and after
a pitching change, Englund
reached base on an in¿eld hit,
Fremstad scored on a single to
right by Carter Wallace, and
Lyngstad’s sacri¿ce bunt later in
the inning brought in Englund.
Lyngstad helped his cause
with another run-scoring single
in the sixth inning, as Englund
crossed the plate for the third
time.
Estacada 5, Astoria 3
The Fishermen opened the
weekend with a nonleague
game against Estacada, Friday
at Aiken Field.
And the visiting Rangers
managed to hold off Astoria’s
late rally for a 5-3 win.
Astoria starter Jackson
Arnsdorf gave up just two hits
in three innings pitched, but
Estacada scored twice in the
second inning, then tacked on
single runs in the third, ¿fth and
seventh innings.
The Fishermen staged a rally
in the bottom of the seventh, as
Ryker Helmerson led off with a
single and took third on a dou-
ble by Ryan Palek, and both
scored on a two-out double by
Kyle Strange, who later came
home on a single by Fridtjof
Fremstad.
Estacada pitcher Andy
Avants threw 5 pitches and
went the distance, allowing
seven hits with 0 strikeouts
and one walk in the victory.
Gary Henley/The Daily Astorian
Carter Wallace drove in a run in both the third and fourth innings for the Fishermen.
