Girl Scout cookies are here!
Starting today, you can order your
favorite Girl Scout cookie from your
favorite Girl Scout.
Scouts in Clatsop County will be
selling cookies today through March
13.
You may see cookie booths setup
in front of a local business or a wagon
being pulled down Commercial Street
¿ lled with cookie bo[es.
Through the Girl Scout Cookie
Program, girls develop ¿ ve essential
skills: goal-setting, decision-making,
money management, people skills and
business ethics. Troops use the pro-
ceeds to go on adventures and support
their community. Recent e[amples
of Scouts caring for their community
include donations to the local Clatsop
County )ood Bank, the Holiday :ish-

On Jan. 28, members
and volunteers of the Asto-
ria Downtown Historic Dis-
trict Association (ADHDA)
gathered at Buoy Beer Com-
pany to honor and celebrate
the volunteer spirit of down-
town Astoria with its fourth
annual Volunteer Apprecia-
tion Night and Awards Cer-
emony. Collectively, volun-
teers gave more than 2,700
hours of service to the orga-
nization in 2015.
Special recognition was
given to Greg Cross and
Jack Harris for their contin-
uous support for ADHDA’s
largest fundraising event,
the 3aci¿ c North:est Brew
Cup, which is always held
the last weekend in Septem-
ber. Malama Day Spa, Salon
Verve and T. Paul’s Supper
Club were recognized for the
time and talents given during
ADHDA’s second largest
fundraising event, The Jane
Barnes Revue; Patsy Oser
for her continued enthusiasm
and go-getter attitude; Den-
nis Stichman for his green
thumb; Astoria Parks and
Recreation Departm ent for
their continued support in
many of ADHDA’s beauti¿ -
cation projects; and Norma
Hernandez for her diligent
community service.
Mitch Mitchum was post-
humously honored with The
Pat Award, which recog-
nizes an individual with out-
standing volunteer spirit.
Mitchum’s support was
key in the re-energizing of
ADHDA. He sat on both
the Business Development
and Design Committees. His
insight and knowledge of
downtown will be missed.
The Pat Award was ¿ rst
given to Pat Saunders in
2011, and was so named to
honor her generous and ded-
icated community spirit and
enthusiasm for ADHDA. In
her memory, this award is
given to the volunteer who
has gone above and beyond
in the past year. Past recipi-
ents have included Mary Rit-
ter, Dan Bartlett, and Katie
Murray.
ADHDA’s awards and
accomplishments of 2015
were made possible by the
dedication of its volunteers,
particularly the 45 volun-
teers who give monthly as
members on the board and
committees.
