‘Smart Driver’ class starts Monday

4 p.m. Monday at Columbia
Memorial Hospital, Columbia
Center, Chinook Room,
2021 Marine Drive. Register
through Clatsop Commu-
nity College at 503-338-
2408. The class includes a
45-minute break for lunch,
and two short breaks. Those
attending should come early
to get the paperwork done.
Seating is limited.
Upcoming classes are :
March 16 at Bob Chisolm
Community Center in Seaside;
March 16 at Humps Restaurant
in Clatskanie; and April 14 at
the Astoria Senior Center.
These
courses
are
designed for seniors age 50
and older, but anyone can
attend. Oregon state law
provides for a discount on
auto insurance premiums
for completing this course.
Attendance at the entire
class is required to receive

Most insurance companies
require that a refresher course
be taken every three years
to continue to receive the
discount; or every two years
for those who are 70 or older.
The cost for the class is
$15 for AARP members and

Irene Redberg of Hammond, Oregon, passed
away on Jan. 25, 2016 . She was born Irene
Monnier on Nov. 22, 1926, in Shanghai, China. As
the daughter of a career U.S. Navy man she lived
in numerous locations both in and out of the U.S.
During World War II, Irene worked for the
Navy as a secretary in Astoria, Oregon, and it was
here she met Darrel Redberg on a blind date. They
ZHUHPDUULHGVL[PRQWKVODWHURQ9DOHQWLQH¶V'D\
and celebrated over 60 years of marriage until
Darrel’s death in 2011.

who came to think of her as a second mother. She
loved jewelry, QVC and was artistic and creative.
One of her favorite pastimes was crocheting
afghans, most of which ended up as gifts for her
family and friends.
