I
n the way the best weddings often do, the
Sept. 5 nuptials of Amanda Farrar, 30, and
Daniel Borchert, 30, in scenic Arch Cape,
mirrored their hopes, plans and dreams for their
future. It was their day, and in planning it they
showed a real feet-on-the-ground approach to
things, staying flexible but retaining a solid sense of
themselves the whole time.
With families as far apart as South Dakota and
Maryland, picking where to get hitched was tricky. Things
worked out, though, when the couple moved to Oregon,
as Amanda was looking at Oregon State University’s

marine biology program. “Our first stop was Cannon
Beach because I needed to see the ocean,” she remembers

Oregon; they can come to where we’re at.’”
The couple met at a party on New Year’s Eve. “We
kind of talked and then exchanged numbers. He called me
a couple of days later and we started hanging out,” recalls
Amanda. They’ve been together for eight years now. But
one fateful Thanksgiving, the couple was at the mall. “We
ended up looking at rings for giggles, and he’s like, ‘Well,
do you want to do this?’” Later, he did ask for Amanda’s
hand in the time-honored way.
The wedding was held on a bluff overlooking the

The groom was there on time; the bride was not — a role
reversal which greatly amused them afterward. >>
