“They did the whole concept for the banquet,” Heather
says. “The theme was vintage and decorating was critical.”
Larson and Newhall balanced wood and nature, new and old,
bringing in chandeliers as well as antiques from Vintage
hardware, and arranging for the flowers. “They were the ones
who made everything perfect,” enthuses the delighted bride.
They had the banquet room, and now they needed a place
for the actual ceremony, something vintage and very Astoria.
The railroad station, now the Maritime Museum’s Barbey
Center, seemed the perfect choice, but it led to another
question: how to get their guests from there to Pier 39, which
would be almost a half-hour walk?
Enter the Glam Tram. A new addition to the Astoria event
and party scene, the Glam Tram once shuttled visitors around
the Los Angeles Zoo. On July 4 it became a fun and creative
way to shuttle wedding guests from train station to cannery. “It
was totally fun and local,” Heather says. “People loved it.”
When guests stepped off the Glam Tram onto Pier 39, they
walked through the newly decorated vintage ballroom to a
large concrete patio where Chris Holen of Baked Alaska
Restaurant presided over barbecued oysters, hors d’oeuvres,
and wine. After that, there was a dinner that featured salmon
and beef shoulder. Heather says, “He did a great dinner. It was
local and seasonal, and reflected Astoria.”
One of the advantages of a Pier 39 location on July 4 is
that you are close proximity to the fireworks, so instead of a
cake, Baked Alaska provided a variety of small desserts that
guests could eat while watching the show.
Everything was very Astoria, from venue to food, and
Heather and Mike wanted to find the perfect person to
immortalize every moment of their special day. They wanted
a photojournalistic approach, and for the first time they went
outside Astoria, finding photographer Justin Koeppen and his
Sky Blue iris Photography online. Located in Portland,
Koeppen says, “I take a simple approach to wedding
photography, and deliver fun, creative, memorable
photography.” A few of the pictures he took were posed, but
most were candid. “His pictures tell a story,” Heather says,
“They were really unique pictures and very real.”
The wedding and reception went exactly as planned, a
wonderful time was had by all, and family and friends found
out why the new Mr. and Mrs. Angiletta had moved to the
Oregon coast to begin their life. “It was a beautiful day to be
with family and old and new friends,” Heather says, “and we
had an awesome view of the fireworks.”
