Providence Seaside Hospital and Service Area COMMUNITY BENEFIT SUMMARY In 2014, Providence Seaside offered more than $1 million in free and discounted care so that the uninsured and underinsured could access health services. Free and discounted care is only part of Providence’s total North Coast area community benefit of $1.8 million in 2014. SUPPORTING A STRONG WORKFORCE OF INCREASING ACCESS TO BEHAVIORAL ADDRESSING CHILDHOOD HUNGER RURAL NURSES HEALTH SERVICES Clatsop Community College has added faculty time in their nursing education program with support from Providence. This support allows aspiring nurses from the North Coast to achieve their education goals and serve their local communities in the years to come. There is significant need on the North Coast for a safe, therapeutic place for individuals struggling with mental health and substance use disorders to stabilize and begin long-term treatment. Providence is collaborating with key community stakeholders, including Clatsop Behavioral Health, to establish and fund a new Behavioral Health Crisis and Respite Center opening in 2015. Oregon is one of the nation’s most food insecure states. Providence is supporting the work of Partners for a Hunger-Free Oregon to increase access to healthy foods for children. Adequate nutrition is a vital part of development, focus and success in school. Through funding and mobilization of champions across the state - our shared goal is to supply breakfast, after-school and summer meals for hungry children.
