Free emergency response training offered
The Daily Astorian
Clatsop County Emer-
gency Management is offer-
ing two upcoming Commu-
nity Emergency Response
Team training sessions for
those interested in learning
about disaster preparedness.
The 21-hour session is
offered in either a nine-
week course each Thursday
from Sept. 24 to Nov. 12 at
the county’s emergency op-
erations center in Warren-
ton, or as a three-day course
Nov. 13-15 at Camp Kiwan-
ilong in Warrenton.
The course educates
people about disaster pre-
paredness for hazards that
may impact their area and
trains them in basic disaster
response skills such as ¿ re
safety, light search and res-
cue, team organization and
disaster medical operations.
Once trained, CERT
members can join their lo-
cal team or simply use the
skills learned to improve
their personal level of pre-
paredness and assist oth-
ers in their neighborhood,
community or workplace
following an event when
professional responders are
not immediately available
to help.

Williamsport Road to be closed for mowing
The Daily Astorian

will close Williamsport
Road Thursday between
the Transfer Station and
James Street for machine
mowing.
The road closure is ex-
pected to occur between
8:30 a.m. and 2 p.m., or
until the work is complet-
ed. The schedule is subject
to change due to weather
conditions.

attending. He has been writ-
ing a history of Westport and
hopes to have it published
soon. All proceeds from the
book will go to the Clatsop
County Historical Society.

Eleanor Morehouse, 86, of
Astoria, died Tuesday, Sept. 1,
2015.
She was born May 6, 1929, in
Winfield, Kan., to Richard and
Esther Smith.
She married Leon Morehouse
June 10, 1947, in Portland, Ore.
Mrs. Morehouse was a home-
maker, and she enjoying collect-
ing. She was interested in child Eleanor Morehouse
care, and was a foster parent.
She is survived by three sons
and their spouses, Jody More-
house of Astoria, Robert and
Mary Morehouse of Heppner,
Ore., and Korry and Michelle
Peterson of Benton, Wash.; a
daughter and son-in-law, Janice
and Jon Martin of Gearhart; and
17 grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by
three sons, Ron, Jim, and Ray
Morehouse , and her husband,
Leon Morehouse.
No service is planned.
