What do you do in the Coast Guard and how did you end up
in that position?
“I am currently working at the Sector Columbia River Housing
office. My job entails reaching out to all of the incoming person-
nel and their families and assisting them in finding homes in the
community.
What is the most interesting thing about your job?
“I love that it allows me to communicate with the members on a
more personal level.
What do you like most about Astoria?
“My family and I moved to Astoria in July of 2014 and are really
enjoying the Pacific Northwest. We love that there are so many
places for us to camp, ride our four-wheelers, and take the kids
for bike rides. We’ve met so many friendly people since moving
to the area and have felt very welcome by the community!”
Aviation Maintenance Technician
2nd Class Daniel Bovard
30, VANCOUVER, WASH.
What do you do in the Coast Guard and how did you end up
in that position?
“I’m an Aviation Maintenance Technician and Flight Mechanic on
the MH-60 Helicopter. Once I joined, I knew that I wanted to fly
search and rescue. It took a year and a half of amazing hands-on
training, but I have been loving it for the last 10 years.
What is the most interesting thing about your job?
“I get the opportunity to do something new almost every day I go
to work, whether it be troubleshooting maintenance discrepancies,
or hearing that alarm that sends our crew flying to the rescue.
What do you like most about Astoria?
Astoria has some of the nicest people around and my wife and I
can always find new activities to enjoy.”
