Erin Cameron
BROOK PARK, OHIO
What do you do in the Coast Guard and how did you end up in that
position?
“I’m the Sector Command’s Executive Assistant. My better half was
transferred to one of the cutters and it just so happened the previous ex-
ecutive assistant’s husband was transferring to Hawaii. After many
months of waiting and interviews, I resigned my IT trainer position and
was afforded this great opportunity to work for the command here.
What is the most interesting thing about your job?
“One of the things I love the most and is quite interesting, is meeting
everyone that comes to the base; either as a visitor or a military member
and their family.
What do you like most about Astoria?
“There is so much U.S. history present in Astoria – I never really knew
how much existed. And all the fresh fish – just awesome!”

What do you do in the Coast Guard and how did you end up in that
position?
“I am currently working at the Sector Columbia River Housing office.
My job entails the management of all housing maintenance for the 114
Coast Guard owned Homes in Astoria and the 25 homes in Ilwaco.
What is the most interesting thing about your job?
“The two biggest questions a Coast Guard member has when transfer-
ring, are where am I am going to live, and where are my kids going to
school? I enjoy the job because it allows me to help provide quality
living for Coast Guard families, and help them answer the question of
where they are going to live.
What do you like most about Astoria?
“My wife and I moved to Astoria in July of 2014 and are enjoying this
area. We love that there are so many places for us to get out and enjoy
the outdoors. We both love to hike, kayak, ride our four-wheelers, and
take our dog Whiskey to the great beaches in the area.
