co-PrESIDENT
Kathy Koppen Dean
Kevin Leahy is a fourth-generation Astorian. He
graduated from Astoria High School, attended Clatsop
Community College and graduated from Oregon State
University with his Bachelor of Science in business
administration.
Kevin is the executive director of Clatsop Economic
Development Resources, Clatsop County’s economic
development organization, and the Clatsop Community
College Small Business Development Center.
Kevin has life-long memories of the Astoria Regatta
Festival, from participating in the Regatta Junior Parade at
age 4 to spending each August with his three siblings and
his father watching his mother Dolores “Dee” Leahy lead
the Anchor Club in procession as the drill leader for 60
women for this service organization, which was formed to
support the Astoria Regatta Festival.
Kevin is honoring the memory of his mom’s 41 years
of service to the Anchor Club this year as co-president of
the 2015 Astoria Regatta Festival and was recently
knighted by the Royal Rosarians. He selected the Dolores
rose as his ceremonial rose.
Kevin has been married to his wife, Karen, for 33 years,
with three adult children: Meaghan, Sean and Kelley. He
considers his family his greatest accomplishment.
Kathy Koppen Dean was born and raised in Astoria,
graduating from Astoria High School. She is also a
graduate of Bassist Fashion Institute of Portland and The
Evergreen State College, Olympia, Wash.
Kathy was recently knighted by the Royal Rosarians,
and selected the Evelyn rose as her ceremonial rose in
honor of her Portland-born mother. Kathy’s father, Sverre
Koppen, was raised in Norway, and was a commercial
fisherman in Astoria. The river, ocean, and fishing
industry were an integral part of their daily lives.
Kathy has many fond childhood memories of the
Astoria Regatta and has chosen to work toward keeping
the Regatta an event that draws visitors to this area, show-
casing our magnificent and historical Pacific Northwest.
Recently retired from a career encompassing the legal,
educational and health care fields, she now has time for
more artistic endeavors. This year, she and her husband,
Steve Huntsberry, relocated across the river to Ilwaco,
Wash., but her roots are firmly planted in Astoria.
