Don and Wendy West and relatives
Marshall and Patty Doyle purchased
year the Crest Motel in July of 2014,
renamed it the Astoria Crest Motel and
immediately began renovations. Don and
Wendy have lived in Astoria since 2005 and Don has over 35
years of hotel experience. Marshall is a businessman who
travels between Astoria and Portland. “When we had the
opportunity to buy this historic property, we took a leap of
faith and jumped. We knew the Crest had been open since
the 50’s and that it would require some work. We also knew
that it had a spectacular location and a unique history tied
directly to the Lewis & Clark expedition. We actually have
the only privately held state historical marker about the
Journey of Discovery because Lewis & Clark spent five nights
on our site while searching for what would eventually
become Fort Clatsop.”
The West’s and Doyle’s are proud of their updated
renovations (in spite of the many infrastructure challenges
which go hand in hand with older properties). They are now
being rewarded for their
efforts as returning
guests walk into the just
finished lobby in
amazement to see “Epic
Views of History” in a
brand new big-picture-
window panoramic way.
