Sven A. Gimre founded S.A. Gimre
Shoemaker in 1892. Sven made and
repaired shoes on Bond Street between
11th and 12th. Gimre’s current location
is at 239 14th St. and has been at that
location since 1923.
Sven passed on the business to his two
sons Kermit and Anders. The business is now owned by
3rd-generation owner Pete Gimre.
Gimre’s Shoes is the oldest, family-owned shoe store on
the West Coast and 7th oldest in the country. Gimre’s
specializes in better-grade comfort shoes in a variety of
widths and sizes.
